Arsenal have agreed a club-record fee of £55.4million with Borussia Dortmund for striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and is expected to arrive in London to complete his medicals by the end of the week.

The Gabon striker, whom the Gunners are anxious to see play at the Emirates, is also set to be the club’s highest-ever paid player.

Arsenal have agreed to offer Aubameyang a three-and-a-half year contract worth £180,000-a-week as they look to enforce their forward lines after losing their talisman Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United a week ago.

Dortmund are considering replacing Aubameyang with Chelsea’s Batshuayi and Giroud being their top targets.

Aubameyang’s arrival means Arsenal will allow Giroud to move to Chelsea should their London rivals meet the club’s £35m.

The Blues are also considering loaning out Batshuayi after reports say he has not been able to fit into the Blues system of play.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to build a squad that will fire Arsenal back into the Champions League after missing out the spot to Tottenham Hotspurs last season.

Wenger is looking up to Arsenal’s Premier League encounter with Swansea on Tuesday night at the Liberty Stadium.
